Long lasting development results in success
The successful story of B&B-MAF in the PET FOOD- industry with SFB packing
The simple name SFB (Side gusset bag), the result of a long lasting trustful
cooperation between the machine manufacturer B&B-MAF of Hopsten, Germany,
and several companies engaged in ready-made products stands for a hightechnological
development of a brand new mode of packing and the corresponding
machine equipment.
As early as 1999, a first manufacturing machine for the production of side gusset
bags with sealed seams and zipper for re-seal was put into operation. Construction of
such machine took place in the works of B&B-MAF on the basis of an existing stand
bottom bag machine. The starting efficiency of 35,000 bags per day in a 3-shift
operation could not stand very long the strongly-growing demand, so that already in
the following year a second machine with improved technique was ordered. By
means of a two-web design the daily production could be doubled. Today’s annual
production capacity amounts to 500 million pieces of packaging and is produced on
30 machines. In the year 2008, growing will be continued in supplying 5 further
machines.
This success story was expanded in the year 2003 on the US market. A first machine
was installed. Commissioning of many further machines is still being continued during
this year, so that a production capacity of approximately 80 million pieces of
packaging per year will be provided.
Not only in the works of B&B-MAF this success story is lasting with delivery of 28
plants across Europe and 4 plants to North America. Many packing manufacturers
have taken over this innovative concept, so that today a yearly production of
